Adding Members to a Distribution Group

Roles for distribution groups

Owner: Can only add owners and members to the distribution group and is unable to send email from it. It is always a good idea to have 2 owners in case someone is away or leaves their position, etc.

Member: Can see the distribution list on the 鈥渢o鈥 field of a new email and can send emails from it. All emails sent from the distribution group will go to all members. Do not share the distribution group email to members if you don鈥檛 want them to send from it. *If an owner is not a member, they will not be able to see the distribution group in the 鈥渢o鈥 field and will be unable to send from it.

How To Add Members to a Distribution Group

N.B. You must be an owner to add members.

Step 1. Head to  and sign in using your MUN credentials.

Step 2. At the top right of the screen, click on the cogwheel to open the settings menu.

Step 3. In the settings menu, click on General.

Step 4. In the general tab, click on Distribution Groups.

Step 5. In the right pane, click on the words 鈥渢his portal鈥 and it will open a new tab to the Exchange admin center.

Step 6. In the exchange admin center that opens, click on the 鈥淕roups I Own鈥 tab.

Step 7. Select the distribution group you want to add members to. A dialogue box will open on the right side of your screen.

Step 8. Select the Members tab in the dialogue box on the right side of your screen.

Step 9. Scroll down the members list until you see the View All and Manage Members option in blue.

Step 10. In the members list, click on the +Add Members button in the top left corner.

Step 11. In the search box type in the username of the member you want to add and hit Enter on your keyboard. Do not include @mun.ca with the username.

Step 12. Click on the user that appears and then click on the Add button.

Step 13. Wait for the changes to save and a green confirmation prompt will appear. The changes may take 5-10 minutes to finish syncing.
