Finding a computer hostname
Windows
Step 1: Click the Start Menu and type "cmd". Click "Command Prompt"

Step 2: Type "hostname" and press enter. Your hostname should begin with "S" and three letters representing your department. For example "SBIO-M040" as pictured below would be a laptop belonging to the Biology department.

MAC OS
Step 1: Click the "Apple" menu in the top right corner and select "System Settings".

Step 2: In "System Settings" select "General" and then click "Sharing".

Step 3: Scroll to the bottom and find the section "Local hostname". Your hostname should begin with "S" and three letters representing your department. For example "SBIO-M040" as pictured below would be a laptop belonging to the Biology department.

Linux
Open a terminal window and type "hostname" and press Enter. Your hostname should begin with "S" and three letters representing your department. For example "SBIO-M040" as pictured below would be a laptop belonging to the Biology department.
