Research
Research is an important part of the academic mission of the Discipline of Pediatrics at 糖心APP. Our faculty, clinicians, learners, and research teams contribute to research aimed at improving the health and well-being of children and youth in Newfoundland and Labrador and beyond.
Research within the Discipline spans a broad range of clinical and applied health research, including adolescent health and mental health, diabetes, rheumatology, hematology, oncology, childhood obesity, asthma, emergency medicine, gastroenterology, neonatology, genetics, autism, neurology, infant nutrition and breastfeeding, arthritis, and eating disorders.
The Discipline is also home to the Janeway Pediatric Research Unit (JPRU), which supports pediatric research across the Discipline of Pediatrics and the Janeway Children鈥檚 Health and Rehabilitation Centre. The JPRU provides infrastructure, expertise, and support to help investigators and research teams develop and conduct high-quality pediatric research.
Research and scholarly activity are also integral components of the Pediatrics Residency Program at Memorial. Residents develop knowledge and skills in research methodology, critical appraisal, and scholarly inquiry, and have opportunities to participate in research projects under the guidance of faculty supervisors. The program provides structured learning objectives, mentorship, and resources to support residents through the research process, from developing a research question to completing and sharing their work.
Together, these activities foster a culture of inquiry, collaboration, and continuous learning within the Discipline, while supporting the development of the next generation of pediatric clinicians, researchers, and scholars.
