Undergraduate Handbook
The Undergraduate Handbook conatins useful information for students in Ocean Sciences or Marine Biology, including progress trackers.
Honours Guidebook
The Honours Guidebook contains information about the Honours Dissertation course (OSCS 499A/B), which unfolds over two successive semesters.
Honours Evaluation Guidelines
Here are the normal steps required to complete OCSC 499B:
- The student must submit their thesis along with 鈥499B Submission Form鈥 by the due date (provided in an email communication) to the APO (oceanundergrad@mun.ca) and copy the Deputy Head Undergraduate Studies. The form should indicate the type and date of the oral defence and the name of the examiner who was selected in consultation with the supervisor (confirming they were sent a copy of the thesis).
- The examiner should complete the 鈥499B Examiner Report鈥 and email it to the supervisor with copy to oceanundergrad@mun.ca and Deputy Head Undergraduate Studies. This should normally be done before the oral defence. If required, an extension can be requested.
- The oral defence will normally take place at the Honours Symposium where students deliver either a talk or a poster (unless alternative arrangements for the oral defense are made, with proper justification). The details of the symposium with a schedule and a link for remote participation will be communicated by email.
- At the symposium (or other date), the examiner should complete either the 鈥淗onours Poster Evaluation Form鈥 or 鈥淗onours Talk Evaluation Form鈥 and email it to the supervisor with copy to oceanundergrad@mun.ca and Deputy Head Undergraduate Studies. Reach out if the examiner cannot attend the symposium in person or remotely.
- After incorporating the feedback received, the student submits their final thesis (approved by the supervisor) before the end of the semester to the APO (oceanundergrad@mun.ca), along with the 鈥499B Final Thesis Submission Form鈥, and copy the Deputy Head Undergraduate Studies.
- Once all requirements have been fulfilled, the Head or delegate fills out the pass/fail portion of the form and signs it.
