Limited Site Visit
2027 Limited Site Visit for New PEI Regional Campus
What is a Limited Site Visit?
A Limited Site Visit (LSV) is a focused accreditation follow-up review conducted by the Committee on Accreditation of Canadian Medical Schools (CACMS) when a medical school has accreditation concerns that require monitoring between full accreditation surveys.
Rather than reviewing the entire MD program, a limited site visit examines only specific accreditation standards or elements that CACMS has identified as needing review.
What happens during the visit?
A limited site visit is similar to a full accreditation visit but much narrower in scope:
- The school completes a mini-DCI (Data Collection Instrument) focused on the identified concerns.
- A small CACMS team reviews documentation.
- Interviews may be conducted with administrators, faculty, students, and staff.
- The team evaluates only the specified standards/elements under review.
- A report is submitted to CACMS for an accreditation decision.
Limited accreditation visits are designed to be held on-site but can occur as a virtual visit when circumstances do not allow for face-to-face meetings.
The Limited Site Visit Team typically includes four (4) team members: Chair, Secretary, CACMS Member, and a Medical Student. On some occasions a faculty fellow or observer may accompany the team, but that individual does not participate.
The event itself will take place in person over two days: October 20-21, 2027 (Wednesday and Thursday, respectively).
