42.3 Plan of Study

1. A student chooses between two routes for听completing the M.S.W. program: (1) the course route, Pathway, or (2) the thesis听route.

2. Students who choose the course听route must complete a minimum of 27 credit hours consisting of SCWK 6012,听6013, 6014, 6313, 6314, 6315, 6413, 6417, and 6917. Students who choose the听thesis route must complete a thesis and a minimum of 21 credit hours consisting听of SCWK 6012, 6013, 6014, 6313, 6413, 6917, and at least one of SCWK 6314听or 6315.

3. In addition to the above, course route students

   1. are required to register for听SCWK 6000 during each semester, except for the final semester of the听program. This course comprises the academic guidance component of the听program and is designed to provide students with the opportunity to听integrate curriculum with their individual academic and practice interests听throughout their time in the program. In the final semester, students are听required to register in SCWK 6417. SCWK 6000 serves as a foundation听for SCWK 6417.

   2. are required to submit the M.S.W. Pathway Learning Contract at听any point while registered in SCWK 6000, but no later than two months听prior to the start of the semester in which the student wishes to register in听SCWK 6417. Progress related to the contract is reviewed by the student听and instructor prior to submission for approval by the Associate Dean of听Graduate Programs and Research.

   3. will be assigned a grade of NC (No Grade Expected) in all semesters of听SCWK 6000.

4. A student choosing a thesis program shall be assigned a Supervisor by the Dean听of the School in consultation with the student. It is recommended that a thesis听Supervisor be assigned as early in the program as possible.
